I went hiking today, and I had to wave and say hi to everyone I passed. Which I thought was nice, until I realized the only other time people do this is when they’re on a boat. Or probably at a polo match. It’s what that Eddie Murphy -in-whiteface SNL sketch was about: White people are awfully friendly when they know they’re amongst themselves. So when I don’t say hi to you when I’m hiking, I’m not being rude. I’m just giving it to the man.
